Why did so many motels line Van Buren Street?

Because Van Buren was the highway. U.S. Highways 60, 70, 80 and 89 all ran along it through Phoenix before Interstate 10 was built. Drivers needed a bed for the night, and motor courts went up to meet them.

By 1941, Phoenix claimed more tourist courts, cabins and motels than any other city in the country. Then the freeways came. In the 1970s, the Maricopa Freeway pulled through traffic away from Van Buren, and many motor courts closed.

The Log Cabin Auto Court went up at 2515 East Van Buren. It was torn down in 2010.

The City Center Motel opened at 600 West Van Buren. The City now calls it one of a handful of 1950s motels still standing.

Van Buren loses its highway status

The street lost its federal highway label, years after the interstates took over.

Whether your motel is from the 1950s or opened last spring, the daily job is the same. Every bed needs clean sheets before the next guest checks in.

What happens to your motel's sheets after pickup?

They ride back to our South Phoenix plant. There we wash, press and fold them in our own machines.

Each piece is tagged, and we track it through every step. Your towels return to your motel and nobody else's.

We pick up from motels anywhere in Phoenix. We set your pickup and delivery days when you sign up. To change one, call our office any day of the week.

Appreciate your service, communication, and honesty.

Should an independent motel buy its own linens?

Many owners like it that way. When the sheets and towels belong to you, you decide what guests sleep on. You also decide when a worn piece gets replaced.

We only wash customer-owned goods. Legacy Linen does not rent linens, so you won't see a rental charge on any bill. For motels, we wash sheets, pillowcases, bath towels and pool towels. Tell us how full you usually run and how many sets each room has. We set your pickup days from that. Our prices are clear, with no hidden fees.
