Why does Main Street have so many Mesa motels?

Because Main Street used to be the highway. From the early 1930s to 1969, four U.S. routes ran down it: 60, 70, 80 and 89. Drivers crossing the country needed a bed, and motels opened to meet them.

The city says Mesa once had more than 60 motels along Main Street. Through traffic moved off in 1992, when US 60 shifted to the Superstition Freeway.

Neon brought drivers in. The Frontier Motel sign from the 1950s stood at 1307 East Main. Today it glows in the city's Neon Garden downtown, which opened in May 2025. The garden holds six restored signs from Mesa businesses of the 1940s to 1970s. Work began in July 2024, paid for in part by a city bond that voters approved in 2018.

The best-known sign on the strip is the Diving Lady at the Starlite Motel, first lit in 1960. A microburst knocked her down in October 2010. Mesa relit her in April 2013.

Why should a Main Street motel own its sheets and pool towels?

So your money goes into linens you keep. A motel buys its sheets, pillowcases, and bath and pool towels once. After that, you pay us only to clean them.

Every piece gets a tag at our plant and is tracked through each wash. That keeps your towels with your motel. We do not rent linens, and our prices are clear, with no hidden fees.

Leaving a linen rental company? Plan to buy your first full set of sheets and towels before we start. From then on, those pieces are yours for as long as they last.

We pick up from motels all over Mesa. Tell us how many sets of sheets you keep for each room. We use that number to plan pickup days, so your shelf does not run bare.
